We didn't guess at the numbers. Shed-X was formulated by a Ph.D. in animal nutrition who set the exact ratio of omega 3 to omega 6 that skin needs to hold on to its hair, then added the vitamins and minerals a coat is built from. That ratio hasn't changed since 1999, because it didn't need to.

With proper use — the full spoon every day and a doubled dose for the first 30 days — most coats change in 3 to 6 weeks. Hair grows on a cycle, so the new coat needs a few weeks to come in.
One tablespoon for every 20 lb of body weight per day, doubled for the first 30 days. Dogs under 10 lb take 1–2 teaspoons; 11–19 lb take half to one tablespoon.
We color the bottles by dog size: blue 8 oz for small dogs, yellow 16 oz for medium dogs, green 32 oz for large dogs. The formula inside is the same — bigger bottles simply hold more spoons.
The dog formula has a natural chicken flavor and the cat formula a natural tuna flavor. Most pets eat it straight off their food. Stir it into kibble so the oil soaks in.

Excessive shedding starts in the bowl
Our answer turned out to be food, not fur. When a diet runs short on essential fatty acids, or carries omega 3 and omega 6 in a lopsided ratio, the skin dries out and the coat lets go of hair it should be holding. That's why we made Shed-X a liquid fish oil for dogs and cats rather than another brush or spray: Norwegian anchovy and sardine oil, flaxseed and wheat germ oil, zinc and biotin, balanced by our Animal Nutrition Ph.D. It's a daily shedding supplement that works on the skin under the coat, so the coat stays on the dog.
